Financial and economic abuse is the intentional withholding of money and resources as a means to exert power and control over a partner.

  • Withholding economic resources such as money or credit cards
  • Stealing from or defrauding the victim of money or assets
  • Exploiting the victim’s resources for personal gain
  • Withholding physical resources such as food, clothing, necessary medications, or shelter from the victim
  • Preventing the victim from working or choosing and occupation in order to keep him/her financially dependent on the abuser
